Whistling Heron ( Syrigma sibilatrix )

53 cm. It is a beautiful heron with the upper parts grayish blue, the neck and the ventral region brownish yellow. The face is blue. Distribution: Open areas from Colombia to Argentina. Habitat: Unlike other herons it may be found very far from the water, thriving in open fields and only occasionally in wetlands. Diet: Feeds on mollusks, amphibians, lizards and insects, mainly grasshoppers. Hunts on the ground revolving the earth and grass with its beak. Short-crested Flycatcher ( Myiarchus ferox )

18,5cm Like other flycatcher from the same genus, the Short-crested Flycatcher is yellow bellow, has a grayish throat and mostly brown upperparts. It can be told apart from the other species by the short crest and the absence of white spots around the eyes. Like other species of flycatcher it spends most of the time perched in forest edges. Feeds mainly on flying insects that it seizes in short flights, returning to the same perch. It also catches insects among the leaves and berries. Its vocalization reminds that of the White Woodpecker ( Melanerpes candidus ). The nest is build lining a small tree hole, where two buffy eggs are laid.

Árvore até 25m; extremidade dos ramos, pubescente, levemente estriada, lenticelas esbranquiçadas, conspícuas; folha simples, alterna, espiralada, sem estípula, pecíolo algo estriado, 7 X 0,2cm, glabro, lâmina ovado-elíptico, ápice mucrunado, base cuneada, geralmente assimétrica, 16-23 X 8.5-10cm, margem inteira, irregular, membranácea, venação camptódroma, 6-8 pares de nervuras secundárias, conspícuas, venação terciária formando retículo pouco conspícuo, glabra, ráfides visíveis com auxílio de lupa, dispersas por toda a lâmina.
